A Norwegian sixth form student group from Fyllingsdalen Videregaende School in Bergen recently visited Whitby.
The Scandinavians tour of the area included visits to Goathland which is well known widely in Norway as the setting of Aidensfield in Heartbeat, which became a leading programme on national television channel NRK-1.
Interest in the almost identical similarity of Fylingdales, was a topic of conversation in contemplating the potential Viking origins of the local area’s name.
Fyllingsdalen teacher Ingeborg Sundfor commented that despite the often inclement weather, the group were all very pleased with their stay in the area.
The trip was co-ordinated by educational travel organisation Club England, who have been bringing Scandinavian students to the North Yorkshire coastal area for over 45 years.
