TWO primary schools in the Esk Valley are exploring the option of forming a federation which would see them run jointly.
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) confirmed to the Whitby Gazette that the governing bodies of Glaisdale and Castleton Primary Schools are looking into a programme for the future of both schools.
That programme will feature possibilities for both schools to work together in the future and a federation - which would see both schools managed as one.
It comes following the absence of a headteacher at Glaisdale and in the meantime, Castleton head, Jane Douglass has been acting as executive headteacher across both schools.
NYCC say the next step now is consultation with both communities, but even though Castleton and Glaisdale have worked with other schools in the Esk Valley in the past, other schools are not involved in discussions about the collaboration.
Mrs Douglass added: “The Esk Valley schools work in alliance together to help secure the future of our village schools. The individual identities of these schools are extremely important to us and we intend to do whatever we can to maintain them.”
