YOUNG newshounds in Danby have put pen to paper and printed their own school newspaper.
Over recent weeks they have been searching out scoops and snippets from around the school and compiled them all into “The Danby Times”.
There is everything a good newspapers should have including interviews, news, views, pictures, a weather report and adverts.
Rosie Barber and Harvey Clacherty from years 5 and 6 were the editors, Henry Sheffield was part of the reporting team and interviewed headteacher Tim Landers on his last Christmas at the school while Tom Houlgate spoke to the school cook about dishing up Christmas lunch for the entire school.
Daniel Woolf, Charlie Hopkinson, Felix Brown and Tom put together the letters page while Harvey, Rosie, Alex Peacock and Ryan Thompson put their views across in the editorial section.
Picture artists were Lacy Hewison and Philip Beaumont while surmising the Christmas play were Felix and Daniel again who were helped out by Charlie Hopkinson doing folluw up interviews.
Tom and Ryan were in charge of the puzzles page and Jack Martin, Daniel and Brianne McTurk the adverts while Brianne and Alex checked out whether we are in for a white Christmas.
The budding young reporters have been inspired after visiting the Gazette offices last month.
Class teacher Mrs Lesley Wells said: “They learned about layout, that the sports pages go at the back. We looked at the Gazette sports reports and adverts.
“We are selling them at 20p to cover the cost of paper and printing. Last year we did 30 or 35 and this is the fifth year that we have done them.”
