A teenager and her dog were rescued by the coastguard on Saturday night after the family pet jumped off the East Pier.
The Alsatian landed 15 feet down on the ‘Bull Nose’ and then the girl, thought to be around 14, went down after the dog to try and rescue it. Specialist cliff technicians with ropes and harnesses including five from the Whitby coastguard and three from Staithes helped.
Rob Parkin from the Whitby team said: “The dog came off the lead and jumped. It was at least 15 feet and was uninjured. It was dark by the time we got them recovered and we asked the police to take her home to make sure she was safe.”
