A NEW website offers advice to anyone buying tickets for the London 2012 Olympic Games in an attempt to battle fraudulent ticket sellers.
Detective Inspector Ian Wills, of North Yorkshire Police’s Financial Investigation Unit, said: “Big events like the Olympic Games are big business for organised criminals who can make hundreds of thousands of pounds by selling fake tickets or stealing credit card details online.”
Anyone planning on attending London 2012 is therefore urged to visit www.northyorkshire.police.uk/olympics for advice on where to buy tickets and who to buy them from.
The official ballot for buying tickets for the 2012 games opens on Tuesday 15 March 2011.
Tickets are on sale from official sources until Monday 26 April 2011 and can only be officially purchased online at www.tickets.london2012.com.
Det Insp Wills added: “The only way to ensure your ticket is genuine is to buy it from an official source.
“If you don’t, you risk losing your money and missing out on a fantastic event.”
