Trading Standards officers are warning people in the Whitby area to be vigilant and not to deal with doorstep callers.
They have been made aware that doorstep callers offering gardening services have been in the area this week and are concerned about protecting residents from rogue trading.
Ruth Andrews, head of Fraud and Financial Investigations said consumers should not deal with doorstep callers.
“Ee would like to hear from anyone who has been cold-called this week and been offered gardening services, particularly from consumers who traded with the callers.
“We know that doorstep callers deliberately target the elderly and vulnerable and would request that family members, friends, neighbours and others in the community report doorstep callers to us or the police immediately, to help us protect the most vulnerable on 08454 04 05 06.”
