Pizza thief detained

A STAITHES man has been imprisoned after stealing pizzas and chocolate bars from a store in the village.

Alex Standell (20), of Staithes Lane, was committed to a youth offender institution for 36 weeks after being convicted of a number of different offences.

He pleaded guilty to stealing two pizzas and five chocolate bars between 30-31 July this year from the Co-operative store on Whitby Road.

This offence came while he was serving a suspended sentence for a number of offences dating from March of this year.

These included failing to comply with his terms of probation which arose after he was convicted of stealing £143.91 of DVDs from a Stockton branch of Debenhams.

He also stole a bank card and £100 and used a bank card to fraudulently withdraw euros to the value of £386.31.

At a Scarborough Magistrates’ Court hearing on 8 August he was detained for three weeks for the theft of the groceries, which was added to an existing sentence of 33 weeks for the other offences.
