Metal thieves target Sleights

THIEVES have targeted Sleights this week, taking almost £2,000 worth of metal.

On Tuesday in Birch Avenue five copper water cylinders were taken from a property on Birch Avenue between 10am and 1pm.

The hot water tanks are valued at £1,900, with the largest measuring 1.5metres by 50cm.

Four of the five cylinders have a yellow foam lining, while one has the inscription N.ISH written on it in permanent marker pen.

Another cylinder is marked with the name Alan Brown.

Between 9am and 6pm the same day scrap metal valued at £30 was stolen from a garden on Orchard Road.

A workman at the address saw a man enter the garden and take the scrap metal.

He confronted the man who said he had been given permission to take it, and so the workman stepped aside.

Witnesses in the town have reported two males acting suspiciously in a Ford Transit drop-side pick up van during the day.

The two men were wearing dark clothing and one is described as 5”11 and wearing a “Seth Armstrong” style knitted hat.

Whitby Police are appealing for anyone who may have any information about these thefts to contact them by calling 101.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
