Man charged with assaulting member of the emergency services during altercation on Whitby swing bridge

A man has been charged with assaulting a member of the emergency services during an altercation with a woman on the swing bridge in Whitby.

Police were called to the incident at around 4.25pm on Saturday November 30.

A 26-year-old man from Middlesbrough was arrested and charged with assaulting a member of the emergency services and using threaetning or abusive words/behaviour.

He is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on December 16.

The man was detained after officers used a taser and pava spray.

A 24-year-old woman, also from Middlesbrough, was arrested on suspicion of assault and using threatening or abusive words/behaviour. She has been released on bail while enquiries continue.
