Homeless man had lucky escape

ARSONISTS set on fire a tent near Caedmon School which police say could have been a lot worse.

On Wednesday 1 June it was reported to them that between 11am and 4pm a rucksack had been stolen from the tent which hwas pitched behind the school.

It contained a pair of jeans, some deodrant and dog biscuits.

Later that day at about 8pm the tent was set on fire.

Police say a 30 year-old man of no fixed abode had been living in the tent but wasn’t there when it was burnt down.

Insp Mark Grange of Whitby Police said: “Potentially if somebody was in there it could have been quite serious so we are looking for information in relation to that.”
