Festive thieves warning

RESIDENTS are being warned to make sure their homes are secure in the run up to the festive season after a spate of break-ins across North Yorkshire.

Police say burglaries typically increase at this time of year and over the last few days they have seen that trend continue.

North Yorkshire Police are warning residents to secure their homes as they begin anti-burglary patrols in the run-up to Christmas.

Detective Inspector Ian Dyer said: “With Christmas just a couple of weeks away, thieves know homes will be filled with expensive gifts and will be on the lookout for unlocked doors and windows, gifts on display under the Christmas tree and houses left in darkness.”
