Driver nearly four times drink-drive limit following crash at Robin Hood's Bay, near Whitby

Police found a driver nearly four times over the drink drive limit after a crash on the Yorkshire Coast.

Officers posted on social media yesterday to say they were called to the accident in Robin Hood's Bay.

When the driver was breath-tested, he blew almost four times the legal drink drive limit.

He was arrested and charged with drink driving.

A driver was arrested following a crash in Robin Hood's Bay.

On the same day and in the same area, police also arrested a driver who failed to stop for police.

"When we did catch up with him, he tested positive for cocaine and his vehicle was unroadworthy due to two bald tyres," they said.

Police have been carrying out targeted road safety patrols across North Yorkshire as part of UN Global Road Safety Week.

The week has seen them seize 18 uninsured and untaxed vehicles, including vehicles driven by unlicensed drivers, and arrest 19 people after vehicle stops.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been out enforcing traffic laws outside schools and speed cameras have been deployed across the county, including capturing speeds of 108mph.

Officers also spoke to bikers at the Oliver's Mount Spring Cup about the force's Bike Safe workshops.
