NORTH YORKSHIRE County Council (NYCC) is planning to take over the enforcement of parking restrictions from the police in a bid to reduce illegal parking and obstructions.
NYCC began a consultation on the proposals from Monday which will run until 5 September.
Civil parking enforcement – where parking offences on the public highway are regulated by local highway authorities rather than the police – already operates in the Scarborough borough within North Yorkshire.
But NYCC is looking to extend it to the districts of Craven, Hambleton, Richmondshire, Ryedale and Selby.
