Senior councillors have over-ruled one of their own committees which had given new hope for the future of Whitby’s tourist information centre.
At the borough council’s full council meeting yesterday (Tuesday) it rejected recommendations by the health and well-being scrutiny that had been made just the week before following a two and a half hour debate.
The scrutiny committee had agreed that other options be explored which would have given community groups time to put bids in to take over the running of the facility such as the one pictured.
However, yesterday’s ruling means the lease for the tourist information centre building at Dock End will now be put out to tender with the possibility that tourism services are moved to the Harbour Office.
