Could you be this year'sMiss Regatta?
It may be months away but planning for the 177th annual Whitby Regatta is well underway.
And one of the main jobs is recruiting the face of the event – Miss Regatta.
The hunt is now on to find the perfect girl to step into the role for the 2016 event.
Sam Dixon will be handing over the crown after two years in the role.
She was invited back and was delighted to accept the role for last year after missing out on so much i n 2014 when large sections of the scheduled programme had to be cancelled dure to bad weather.
Miss Regatta will be present at the family favourite Bonny Baby and Glamorous Granny competitions on the Saturday, take part in the Monday parade and present the rowing awards on Monday night before the grand fireworks finale.
Miss Regatta will also be out and about over the weekend at other events and meeting the thousands of people that come to see the sea-faring spectacle.
Sally Landers, who co-ordinates the Miss Regatta role, said: “It is a great opportunity and we are hoping to make a night of the judging.”
Entries have to be in by the end of May. There will be a special selection night at the Yacht Club on Wednesday June 15 with a panel of judges, interview proces and social evening were the winning girl will be revealed and crowned Miss Regatta.
While Miss Regatta is one of the more well established parts of the Regatta, a new attraction which made a successful debut last year is returning.
A local produce market and food and entertainments area will be set up on Archery Green.
It was introduced last year to add something different to the offering on the far West Cliff and encourage footfall in the area for other local shops and businesses.
Rodney Nattriss from the committee thought up and organised last year’s market.
He said: “We are movingthe layout about a bit to generate more pedestrian access but the basics are the same.
“It was definitely a success, the people that went and the people that traded were happy and there was a tremendous atmosphere.”
Fusco’s will be returning to sell their famous fish and chips, there will be live music on a specially built stage and four marquis with stalls inside.
Applications for stalls are being invited at a cost that will cover three days of trading, overnight security and power.
The types of stalls being sought are local produce such as jam, cheese, cakes and chocolate and arts and crafts.
