Committee ignores chief’s recommendation

MEMBERS of a planning committee disagreed with the recommendations of their own chief officer and granted planning permission to a family wanting to improve their home.

Mr and Mrs A Wappat wanted to have a two-storey extension and a conservatory added to their home in Brick Row, Commondale and were supported by parish councillors and a neighbour but it was recommended for refusal at a recent meeting by Chris France on the grounds it would have an overbearing impact on the neighbouring house.

Mr France said even though the neighbour did not object he was keen to ensure housing stock and the local environment were not harmed by insensitive and inappropriate extensions.

Members of the planning committee disagreed with Mr France’s recommendation and decided the plan for the extension and conservatory should be allowed.
