This year’s festive market in Whitby has got underway tonight (Friday) with Christmas shoppers braving the elements to grab a festive treat.

Despite a torrential downpour just minutes before the gates opened at 5pm and an electrical blow out cancelling the planned switch on of the Christmas lights stall holders were ready for business.

There are around 20 traders at the market on Endeavour Wharf selling goods from hats, knitted goods, hampers, coffee, luxury chocolates and stationary and cards.

They have been hand selected by organisers, Seasonal Markets, and include local businesses such as The Whitby Deli, designer Jessica Hogarth and Baytown Coffee Company.

A steady stream of visitors were waiting for the festive fayre to get underway in what is hoped to be the kickstart to Whitby’s Christmas season.

It continues tomorrow (Saturday) 10am-9pm and Sunday 10am-4pm.
