'Chaos' on Brunswick Street after resurfacing works cause water main to burst

A business owner has described scenes of chaos on Whitby's Brunswick Street after a water main burst during resurfacing works.

Michele Stewart from Whitby Crafts on the road said the works are disrupting business on the street, with pedestrians struggling to access her shop.

The county council has said that the road will be closed until tomorrow morning, with parking suspended between Skinner Street and Brunswick Street.

A spokesman said: "During resurfacing work on Brunswick Street on Tuesday evening a T-junction on a water main burst after removal of the course around it. Yorkshire Water attended at about 11pm. The road remains closed today and parking has been suspended between Skinner Street and Brunswick Street. Yorkshire Water expects to reinstate the pipe today and it is expected the road will reopen on Thursday morning."
