A car came off the road in snow at the Hole of Horcum on Sunday evening trapping the occupants inside it.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service asked the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue team to join the rescue mission which already involved other emergency services.

On the way to the incident at Saltersgate on the Whitby to Pickering road they were notified that the occupants had managed to get out of the car and were safely at the road-side.

The call out came at around 5.30pm on Sunday as snow started to fall across Whitby and beyond.

Nineteen members of the rescue team were despatched for around an hour.

While it didn’t settle in Whitby it caused problems on the roads on higher ground.

A team member captured this video showing the snow as they were on the moors road.

It was passable the following day with care and in the other direction heading towards Middlesbrough it made for hazardous driving conditions.
