Whitby proclaimed “Best of British”

A SPARKLING review in The Scotsman has proclaimed that Whitby “has it all”.

The feature was included in the Scottish national newspaper and should help provide a boost in the number of tourists venturing to Whitby from north of the border this year.

Travel journalist David Robinson wrote: “I’d never been before, but it was love at first sight.

“Even out of season, even on a cold March evening, I just knew.

“Maybe it had something to do with the warm yellow light spilling out of the riverside pubs I passed on the way to our hotel, perhaps it was the sight and sound of people singing sea shanties inside them.”

The article applauded local villages, including Staithes, and reserved special praise for the Marine Hotel, where the author stayed.

Janet Deacon, North Yorkshire area director for Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The Scotsman is Scotland’s national newspaper and reaches more than 130,000 readers who we are sure will be enticed to come to the coast for a visit thanks to this hugely successful article.

“We organised the trip in a bid to tap into potential visitors across the border as part of our ongoing drive to promote the area, raise its profile and keep spreading the word that this is the place to holiday!”
