The risk of sewer flooding to properties in Runswick Bay has been significantly reduced now a £500,000 investment by Yorkshire Water is complete.
It took specialist contractors, Mott MacDonald Bentley, 19 weeks to install 250 metres of new sewer between Nettledale Close and Bank Top Lane. Surface water will be diverted downstream to where there is greater capacity in the sewer network.
Yorkshire Water’s project manager Lee Laherty said: “We’re really pleased to have reduced the risk of flooding by laying this new sewer. We would like to thank the community for their patience during the work and apologise for any inconvenience, in particular, by the road closure.”
“Mott MacDonald Bentley have worked as quickly as possible under some challenging conditions but we appreciate the road closure has been disruptive.”
He added: “We do have some work to finish off next week but this will not affect Hinderwell Lane or the bus service again.”
