STAFF at The Co-operative Food store on New Quay Road, Whitby, celebrated the store’s 20th anniversary on Monday (11 July).
A total of 15 members of staff have worked at the store since it first opened it’s doors in July 1991.
They joined two other long-serving Co-operative staff at Whitby - store manager and employee for 37 years, Dennis Gilroy, and deputy store manager Colin Norbury, who has been with the company for 45 years.
Between them they have all clocked up 382 years’ service at the Co-operative and to mark the special occasion the anniversary staff each received a bottle of champagne and a slice of celebratory birthday cake.
Andrew Thompson, The Co-operative Group’s operations manager, said: “The store in Whitby has established itself as an integral part of the local community over the past 20 years.
“All the staff are valued members of the team and they are like one big happy family and the store would not be the success it is without them.
“Having so many loyal staff, who have been with us since the store opened for business two decades ago shows what a great place it is to work.
“I would like to thank them all for their hard work and commitment to the store and to their customers.”
