Whitby and district’s traditional country shows kick off next month as the farming community prepares to showcase the best of its animals and produce.
The first show in the calendar is Hinderwell Show on August 9 .
The event which is in its 143rd year is run by Hinderwell Horse and Agricultural Society and has classes for horses, show jumping, sheep, ferrets, vintage machinery, and farm produce plus many more.
Next in line is Danby Agricultural Show on August 14 -the village’s 153rd show.
One of the biggest in the area, there are a host of livestock classes, sheepdog trials horses and horticulture and handicraft classes included in its large schedule.
Other attractions include Whitby falcon, artistic wood carving demonstrations and the art of sheep shearing also features in this year’s show.
Dates for the diary include Sleights Show (August 17), Rosedale Show (August 17), Farndale Show (August 26), the district’s biggest show - Egton Show on August 21- and Kildale Show (31 August).
Moving into September the show season draws to a close with Castleton Show and Lythe Show both set to take place on September 14.
