AN APPRENTICE from Glaisdale who works at Boulby Mine picked up an award after successfully completing a four year training programme.

James Welford has now obtained a full time, permanent position with Cleveland Potash along with the four other apprentices who were successful this year.

They spent two years at the TTE Technical Training Group on Teesside with the last two years being on site at Boulby.

Family, friends and training partners were at the ceremony at Boulby on Friday.

Craig Hargreaves, training manager, said: “The deployment of the five apprentices to full time, permanent positions within the company adds weight to the argument for apprenticeships.

“Having followed a programme of training for our industry, and Cleveland Potash specifically, we are safe in the knowledge that we have competent young people in responsible positions that have the right attitude to develop further.

“I would suggest that all of them have a long-term future with the company. What better advert for apprentices than this?”
