THE North Yorkshire Moors Railway and Ravenscar’s Raven Hall Hotel have been short-listed for tourism awards. The attraction and venue are inline for York Tourism Awards 2011.
The 50 venues in 13 categories were revealed by Visit York this week. A panel of independent judges will now spend the coming weeks reviewing those short-listed and the winners will be announced at a black tie award ceremony at York Racecourse on 6 April.
The highly prized title of York Ambassador currently held by Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, will be kept a closely guarded secret, revealed only at the awards ceremony.
New this year is the People’s Choice Award, where visitors and residents for the first time are being asked to vote for their favourite experience.
Gillian Cruffas, chief executive of Visit York said: “We feel it is important to acknowledge and reward exemplary customer service. By rewarding good practice, we are working to continually drive up standards and ensure visitors have a quality experience.
The Raven Hall Hotel has been short-listed in York and Scarborough Business Tourism Category while the North York Moors Railway is vying for the Visitor Attraction of the Year (50,000 visitors and over) category.
