Police are investigating after an Arriva bus crashed through the town centre shop window yesterday afternoon (Saturday).
It happened around 2pm at Boyes in Station Square and shocked staff, customers and onlookers escaped without injury.
The Arriva bus is thought to have travelled across the road from the bus station opposite and smashed through the shop front.
The store was evacuated and emergency services and structural engineers drafted in to assess the damage.
Although the window needs replacing and brickwork repaired, the main structure of the shop is thought to be sound.
Nick Knox, from Arriva said: “We can confirm that one of our buses was involved in an incident in Whitby this afternoon. There have been no reported injuries, however a lady was treated for shock at the scene. We are currently working with the police in order to understand exactly what happened.”
