British Gas engineers in Scarborough offering their time and vans to help commnuity

Limited to what work they can do while social distancing guidance is in place, the team are urging people who need food, prescriptions or anything else picking up and delivering to get in touch.
Hisham Al-bizri, one of the engineers, said British Gas is fully behind the plan.

Hide AdHe said they can help out around Scarborough, Malton and Filey.
“My boss in Filey is keen for us to get going with helping the community,” he said. “We may be a national firm but we're local to every community.
“It doesn't matter how many people get in touch, we'll manage it.”
Because everyone is being asked to minimise the amount of time spent in different households, most of the team’s usual work - such as boiler services - has been postponed.

Hide AdHisham said they have had to delay around 70 per cent of their usual jobs - leaving them with time on their hands.
They are only currently carrying out essential works, such as landlord checks and emergency repairs.
They have already found some work they can do helping the Trussell Trust Food Bank in Malton, and seven of them have also signed up as NHS volunteers.
But Hisham said they still have time to help out anyone in need and is urging people to get in touch with him and the other keen men and women on his team.
