Brideshead visited ... and visited, and visited
Castle Howard, Malton's stately home made famous as the setting for TV's Brideshead Revisited in the 1980s, has welcomed a record number of people through its doors '“ more than a quarter of a million visitors in the last 12 months.
Marketing manager Rachel Underwood said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in our history. In the last 12 months we have seen a significant increase in international tourists visiting the house and gardens, in particular from Asia.
“But it’s not only tourists, locals are rediscovering our extensive gardens, adventure playground, woodland and wildlife as a perfect parkland to enjoy throughout the seasons; as well as visiting for events including our upcoming half term trail, flower festival and Christmas opening.”
It is 63 years since the house was first officially opened to the public.
From Saturday February 13 to Sunday February 21, children can enjoy the Big Bloomers trail with giant flowers springing up among the early flowering daffodils and snowdrops. Included in admission, you can spot them all and claim a prize.
