A 10-year-old boy was airlifted from Ruswarp School on Tuesday after suffering a suspected broken leg during a game of ‘tag’ at lunchtime.
An ambulance responded to the incident and was able to give the boy initial treatment, but his injury was so severe that the Great North Air Ambulance was also requested to attend at around 1.30pm.
He was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The child’s leg was broken several times after he landed awkwardly during the game. However, his leg was pinned during routine surgery and he was reported to be in a stable condition when he arrived at hospital.
