A NEW rescue boat at Runswick Bay was formally named and blessed in a ceremony on Sunday.
The vessel is called Spirit II and was blessed by Canon David Smith.
It was watched by Runswick Bay Rescue Boat crew, colleagues from Whitby RNLI led by coxwain Mike Russell, Rescue Boat committee members, trustees, villagers and visitors.
The day began with a short speech by RBRB’s new chairman Graham Naylor followed by a reading, prayers and a hymn led by Canon Smith.
Spirit II was then annointed with champagne and launched for a short display exercise.
Look out in a forthcoming issue of the Whitby Gazette for a feature on the Runswick Bay Rescue Boat which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
