PLANS have now been submitted for a major housing development of 174 homes in Whitby.
David Wilson Homes - part of the Barratt Group - wants to develop the houses on 15.8 acres of arable land south of the existing Barratt estate off Larpool Lane.
The Whitby Gazette revealed the firm’s £15m bid last April but now the company has formally submitted a planning application to Scarborough Borough Council (SBC).
The plans, which also incorporate areas of open space and associated infrastructure, are for four more homes than was previously stated at the consultation stage which took place last year.
In its planning application to the council, the house builder said of the 139 homes for sale on the open market there will be three two bedroom properties, 29 three bedroom homes and 107 houses of four bedrooms plus.
However the scheme also include 20% of affordable housing.
Seventeen of these will be available for rent from a registered social landlord and will include six one bedroom houses, two four bedroom and seven with three bedrooms which will be available for rent from a registered social landlord.
And eighteen homes - 17 two bed homes and one three bed house - will be classed as ‘intermediate housing’ which includes various forms of shared ownership housing.
The closing date for consultation with residents is 11 March although no date has yet been set for it to be considered by the council’s planning committee.
