We all know Whitby fish and chips are hard to beat. Today, you can start rewarding local fish businesses by voting for them in a national awards ceremony.
The National Fish & Chip Awards 2017, organised by Seafish, was launched earlier this month to start a nine- month hunt to find the UK’s best fish and chip businesses.
Now in their 29th year, The National Fish & Chip Awards are recognised as one of the most prominent and respected seafood industry events in the UK – aptly known as the frying ‘Oscars’.
Whitby is widely recognised for the quality of its fish and chips.
But what sets them apart as being better than other seaside resorts?
Commenting on Twitter, Chris Brown said the key is to cook chips in dripping, “rather than the vegetable oil they use down here in Manchester.”
Spinal Injuries, the official Twitter feed of the Spinal Injuries Association charity, tweeted some great advice for lovers of the coastal culinary classic: “Chips4Charity on May 20 is a great excuse for indulging in Whitby’s best fish and chips.”
Yvonne Bartlett, commenting on the Gazette’s Facebook page, said: “It is the lovely fresh fish, good portion size, fantastic crisp batter, dry chips not greasy ones.
“The best thing about Whitby is the wonderful service you receive, that is why people keep coming back, everyone is so friendly here.”
Celebrating the great British tradition of fish and chips, they showcase the best talent, quality and choice offered by fish and chip businesses across the UK through 13 award categories.
Among the categories you can enter are:
l independent takeaway fish and chip shop of the year
l independent fish and chip restaurant of the year
l healthy eating award
l best newcomer award
l the great fish and chip school lunch award
Mel Groundsell, Corporate Relations Director of Seafish, said: “With a fast and simple entry process, getting a bite of the action has never been easier.”
