A member of staff at RAF Fylingdales has won an award seeing off her counterparts from the whole of the air force after less than a year in the job.
Joanne Goff (46) is a service manager for Sodexo - the firm which provides catering, cleaning and accommodation services at the RAF base.
She had only been in the job for nine months when she was put forward by head office for service manager of the year and was gobsmacked to discover she had won at a ceremony in Colchester.
She said: “I was overwhelmed because at the time of the nomination I had only been with the company nine months.
“When I first started, the relationship between the RAF and contractors was not particularly good and we have built up a quality relationship and we are constantly getting positive comments.
“I live in Pickering and as I drive to work I am always excited. I love coming to work so I was thrilled to bits to get the award.”
The team that Jo heads up also won a services excellence award for the north region where they were up against other RAF bases such as Catterick.
