Annual town tribute to explorer is in 30th year

The annual Captain Cook commemorative service in Whitby takes place on Sunday for the 30th year running.

There will be a full outing of dignitaries with mayors from Whitby, Filey, Redcar and Stockton attending as well as the borough council mayor.

The Marske Fisherman’s Choir will be singing before, during and after the service which is at 11.15am at St Mary’s Church.

They will be joined by children from East Whitby School performing Songs from the Sea.

Afterwards, there are refreshments at the Royal Hotel and a short wreath laying ceremony at the Captain Cook statue at 1.15pm.
