A WHITBY fund-raising group is calling for volunteers to take part in an annual long-distance event.
Whitby and District Lions’ 42nd sponsored Lyke Wake Walk takes place on Friday 22 June, with walkers strolling through the night from Osmotherley to Ravenscar.
Whitby Lions will supply full back up and support throughout the 40-mile moorland walk with check points at each road crossing, supplying drinks to help walkers continue and a healthy breakfast at Ellerbeck to offer impetus to push on to the finish.
Beginning at 8pm hikers will stroll across the hill tops with spectacular views over Teesside and Stokesley and beyond as the sun sets and then a few short hours later rises again.
All walkers are to meet at Langborne Road at 6.45pm with the bus leaving for Osmotherley at 7pm, to commence walking at 8.30pm.
The walk is sponsored so all participants are asked to register and receive a sponsor form.
There is a charge of £20 for adults and £10 for under 14s, which can be deducted from sponsorship collected.
A pre-walk meeting will also take place on Tuesday 19 June at Kirkham Close Community Centre at 7pm.
