A WHITBY chef will be championing local seafood at Malton’s Food Lovers Festival.

Rob Green, of Green’s Restaurant on Bridge Street, is quickly gaining a fantastic reputation and will showcase Whitby produce at the event, taking place 21 and 22 May.

Chef Green will join celebrity chefs in serving up a variety of dishes made from recipes designed for the everyday home.

He said: “We champion local food produce and I’m going to do Whitby crab, so I have two or three recipes to promote it.

“Our crab is right on our doorstep but it’s internationally renowned.

“It’s such an underrated product and the recipes I’m doing will showcase what you can do with it.”

The Whitby chef will join festival patrons Tom Parker Bowles and Yorkshire chef Brian Turner at the event.

Tom Parker Bowles said: ”I’m delighted and proud to be a part of the Food Lovers Festival. This is a celebration of fine regional food and cooking. Wonderful ingredients to look forward to and some seriously talented chefs. I can’t wait.”

Mr Green is no stranger to the limelight and has done demonstrations like this before, including the Yorkshire Show.

On Sunday (15 May) at 12.30pm he will talk on Radio 4’s food show and he is also set to be featured on the BBC’s Inside Out.

The Food Lovers Festival was originally launched in 2009 as a one day celebration of Malton’s top quality local food and drink producers, chefs, retailers and eateries.

Following the success of its first Beer Festival last year, a much expanded Beer and Wine Festival is also on this year’s menu with tasting tutorials and notes, an all day beer garden and evening food and music.
