FATHER and son duo Michael and Alfie Edwards are bored of board games...
Not content with the average game of Monopoly – play time in this household is more like a third world war – they are now trying to encourage others to join the battle.
Ever since he was a kid, Michael has been into table top war games and Alfie (12) has also been drawn into battle and plays Warhammer 40,000 at an after school class on Thursdays.
But after attending a gaming weekend in Scarborough a couple of weeks ago they reckon Whitby needs its own club.
Michael, of the Avenue, Sleights, said: “The club members there really wanted us to come along so Alfie could learn how to play Warhammer properly but they were just too far away to make it a realistic prospect.
“After talking to many stallholders, it became apparent that Whitby needs a club.”
Other games they want to play include Witch Finder General, set in the 17th Century where you have to overcome witches, werewolves, vampires and zombies, cult television games and Formula D which lets you pit your wits against nine other Formula 1 drivers around a track.
Michael added: “There are many other games we plan to introduce and play over time. Some gaming stores have offered to send me some new games for us to play as well.
“At this stage I’m just trying to get an idea whether anybody would be interested in coming along and playing each week.”
A venue and dates will be decided when Michael has more idea of the numbers of people interested.
Anyone from the age of 12 is welcome but anyone under 14 needs to be accompanied by an adult.
