Whitby Brewery gives away over £1000 of beer to Keyworkers
Employee Briony Davies, who works on the bar and also helps with the bottling said: “We’d just taken delivery of a new bottling machine and we were trying to work out how to get the levels right.
“The new machine puts the caps on straight away so we can’t adjust them. They were all fine, just slightly below what we usually sell them at.”

The boss was quick to embrace the idea and she put out a Facebook post which read:
“Ahoy local NHS, care, council and postal workers - FREE BEER AVAILABLE!!! After commissioning our new bottling machine we were left with some misfit bottles - there is nothing wrong with the beer, but the bottles are not quite full enough for sale, so we’ve decided to give them away for free to our local heroes. If you work for the NHS, a care home, the local council, or postal/courier services AND live locally in Whitby or the surrounding villages, come and collect your freebie from our lovely Briony.”
In total the company gave away about 35 boxes of beer, each containing a dozen bottles. A bargain for those who received them as a full box normally retails at just under £35.

Briony said: “It went really well, we were never overrun and everyone turned up spaced out. They just came up and we checked their credentials to make sure that they were key workers and they did live in Whitby.”
