Scarborough's pubs and cafés brave the cold weather to reopen - here's what they had to say

As of yesterday, pubs, cafes and restaurants can now open up to customers if they have outdoor seating.
Many have already taken advantage of the easing of restrictions and enjoyed an al fresco meal or drink, even in the cold temperatures of yesterday.

Hide AdLelde Caune, Landlady at The New Lancaster on Sandside, said: “It was great and good to be back.
“It was quite busy and you could see people were pleased to be here.
“It was freezing during the evening but people still stayed!”
Sara Griffiths, owner of The King Richard III Restaurant on Sandside said they were also happy to welcome people back.

Hide Ad“We were really busy, which we were pleasantly surprised by because it was cold but it did warm up nicely in the sun,” she said.
“Everyone was happy to be back - the staff and the customers.
“It was really nice to hear a buzz of conversation and to be getting a step back to normality.”
Sue Bell from The Clock Cafe at The Spa said: “It was really cold but people were still sitting outside eating and drinking.

Hide Ad“People were just so pleased to be able to get out and it was nice for us to have people to talk to for us to be able to open.
“We’ve had customers ringing to wish us good luck and saying they’ll be down later in the week.”
Pubs restaurants and cafes were told they had to close for a third time at the start of the year because of rising cases of coronavirus.
The rules on social contact still apply. Indoor settings must only be visited alone or with a household group.
Outdoor settings are limited to either six people or two households.
