EAGER beavers in the Robin Hood’s Bay area have formed their own group.

Parents Sarah Hydes and Vicky Laycock are running the 1st Robin Hood’s Bay troop which so far has had three sessions.

Their two sons Sam (5) and Toby Welford (6) were the first to sign up.

Around 12 youngsters turned up to the first session and the beavers have now got their very own uniforms.

They will be doing games, outdoor activities such as walks, canoeing, and climbing and the contingent will still be able to obtain the traditional cubs, beavers and scouts badges for tasks like music and creativity.

At the October meeting the beavers will be handed their neck chiefs.

Sarah, of Thorpe Lane, said: “They have had cubs and scouts for two or three years but not one for the five to eight year olds.

“My little boy is five and there hasn’t been one for a couple of years, we have been allowed to take younger kids because the cubs is fully booked.

“Me and another parent have got together and started it off our own backs.”

The beavers meet in the scout hut behind the village hall on Thursdays, 5pm-6.15pm.
