Whitby residents and businesses have been thanked for helping make the town so blooming marvellous.
For the fifth year running, the town has been recognised by Yorkshire In Bloom for its horticultural and floral assets.
At an awards ceremony in York last week, Whitby was the overall winner in the small coastal category and was also awarded a silver gilt.
The accolades came after judges toured the town earlier this year.
Whitby In Bloom’s chairman, Amanda Smith, said she was proud to pick up the award and thanked the group’s volunteers as well as the staff from the borough council’s Environmental Services department.
She said: “It is particularly pleasing to win the coastal category for the fifth successive year, however, that gives us a challenge to make the town even better next year and strive for a gold award.”
Viv Wright, who has recently been elected secretary, added that while the foundations were in place to build on this year’s success there was still a need for more volunteers to help with a variety of tasks from planting to painting benches and railings and other handiwork.
