Floral masterpieces created for Cook Museum tent

Inspired by their collection of botanical prints ‘Banks’ Florilegium’, the museum will be making a tent for Joseph Banks, the botanist who collected many plants on Cook’s first voyage around the world.

The museum’s volunteer Kirsty Davis made visits to local stitching groups with outreach officer Miriam Shone, to show some of the prints.

The tent will be decorated with embroidered versions of the plants Banks collected and many local people have offered their services to create these stitched masterpieces.

A spokesman said: “We have been very excited to receive these beautiful pieces of textile art and would like to thank all the embroiderers for carrying on with the project during this difficult time.

“For those who are still working on their pieces, don’t worry, there is still time to post or drop your work off.”
