No Covid patients in Scarborough Hospital as cases rise across county

There are still no Covid-19 patients in Scarborough Hospital as case numbers continue to rise across North Yorkshire.

There are currently 12 people in hospitals in the county with the virus, including four at Scarborough’s sister site in York, but none so far in the seaside town.

Scarborough’s rate remains the lowest in the county, at 15 per 100,000 people on a seven day average as the Delta variant has now been confirmed as the dominant strain in North Yorkshire

The overall rate in North Yorkshire now stands at 45 per 100,000 while the average for England has now hit 75.

A meeting of the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum heard this morning that the majority of cases were now being seen in the under 30s.

Amanda Bloor, Accountable Officer for North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said that the vaccine would continue to be rolled out

She added: “The vaccination programme continues to make really good progress.

“The Government has assured us that supply will be available to enable every adult to be offered a first Covid vaccination by a new target date of July 19.

“The Government has also advised that there should now be a reduced time between first and second doses from 11 to eight weeks for all those over 40, previous this was only advised for those over 50 and in cohorts 1 – 9.

“You will be contacted if you need to rearrange your appointment and there is no need to call your GP.

“The National Booking Service is now offering vaccination to those aged 23 and over or who turn 23 before July 1.

“In the light of Sir Simon Steven’s comments to the NHS Confederation Conference yesterday we anticipated that the invitation to those aged 18 and over will go out imminently.”
