New coronavirus case is the first in Scarborough borough for more than three weeks

Figures from the government show that a positive test was recorded on Wednesday last week, the first new infection since July 3, 26 days earlier.
The data includes tests carried out in hospitals and also Pillar 2 tests, which is anyone tested at one of the mobile sites in the borough or sent a test to take at home.

Hide AdBefore July 3, the last previous confirmed case in Scarborough was on June 23. The total number of confirmed cases in Scarborough since the start of the pandemic now stands at 562.
It means Scarborough’s seven-day infection rate has now risen slightly from 0 to 0.1.
The number of deaths involving Covid-19 in the borough remains at 72 according to the Government data.
The new Scarborough infection came the same week as local lockdowns were imposed on Greater Manchester and parts of West Yorkshire.

Hide AdThe further easing of lockdown restrictions in England, which had been due to take place on Saturday, has been postponed for at least two weeks, after an increase in coronavirus cases nationally.
The changes will impact on plans by bowling alleys and casinos to reopen and the wearing of face coverings will become mandatory in cinemas, museums and places of worship from this Saturday, August 8.
