Leisure centres around Scarborough 'working to stay open' during coronavirus outbreak as Scarborough Spa closes

Everyone Active - which runs Scarborough Sports Village and Pindar Leisure Centre in Eastfield as well as Ryedale Swim and Fitness Centre, Ryedale Sports Centre and Whitby Leisure Centre - says extra steps are being taken to help people keep active.

"We are taking the coronavirus very seriously and have increased our cleaning regime across our facilities, in line with the latest guidance from Public Health England," said the firm.

"We also ask that customers support us in doing so, by using the anti-bacterial sprays and paper towels in gym areas to wipe down equipment before and after use. This will allow us to continue to provide a clean environment for all.

"We’ll be keeping our customers updated on the latest advice from Public Health England and any Government decisions that may affect your local Everyone Active centre.

"We would like to thank you for your continued support. The safety of our colleagues, customers and communities is our number one priority so let’s all continue to keep ourselves active."

The news comes as Scarborough Spa has announced it is closing on Twitter.

The venue said it will be closed until Sunday April 5.

"The health & wellbeing of all our customers is our absolute priority at SIV & Scarborough Spa.

"A number of performances & events have been postponed or cancelled.

"We will update this thread with all changes to events"
