Winning poems make right connections in Whitby and District Rotary Club competition

For the first time, Whitby and District Rotary Club ran the national 2019/ 2020 Young Writer’s Competition with 22 local schools invited to participate in the event.

Whitby and District Rotary Club presented book tokens and certificates to the winners and runners up.

For the first time, Whitby and District Rotary Club ran the national 2019/ 2020 Young Writer’s Competition with 22 local schools invited to participate in the event.

The title of the piece, either prose or poem, was ‘Connections’.

There were 122 competition entries and a select panel of judges chose winners, runners up and highly commended in each group.

In the coming term, the competition will run again with the title ‘My Happiest Day’.

The winners were: 7-10 Age Group: 1. Sophie Stewart (Egton CofE Primary School); 2. Samuel Lyth (Oakridge Community Primary School). Highly Commended: Ella Covell, Evie Greaves, Regan Robertson. 11-13 Age Group: 1. Ellie Jackson-Fishpool (Eskdale School); 2. Martha Herbert (Caedmon College). Highly Commended: Adam Hodgson, Greg Walsh, Layarna Brion. 14–17 Age Group: 1. Reece Brion (Eskdale School); 2. Alfie Harrison (Eskdale School). Highly Commended: Isabelle Waller, Anna-Jane Coates.
