Initiative launch at Whitby Sixth Form Centre

They were welcomed by Simon Riley, Principal of Caedmon College, Andy Fyfe, Head of Eskdale School and Ms Sarah Booth, a former business owner and past Chair of the Lancashire Branch of the Institute of Directors. Ms Booth is currently Chair of Whitby Museum and spoke about the many benefits to businesses of working with their local schools.

Those in attendance browsed a number of displays about what the secondary partnership can do for businesses and how they, in turn, might help local students.

The business people attending the event were surprised to learn about the range of high quality, adult courses that the sixth form runs, including areas such as health and safety, first aid, food hygiene, and the safeguarding of young and/or vulnerable people.

Caedmon College, which forms part of the Whitby Secondary Partnership, is also able to offer excellent reprographics’ facilities for business printing needs and the sixth form is able to provide a range of spaces for meetings, training and team building at reasonable rates.

The sixth form is looking for work experience placements – on an occasional or regular basis, and staff were delighted that three organisations signed up to help.
