The Black Horse on Church Street and Arnold Palmer Putting Course, which both closed over the weekend as a preventive step, have also reopened.

A post from the Black Horse on social media yesterday said: “We’re very pleased to let you all know that we will be re-opening at noon tomorrow.

“Our precautionary closure has allowed staff members to be tested for Covid-19, and test results have come back negative.

“With the recent confirmed cases, we made the decision to close and be tested, as the health and safety of staff and customers is a top priority.”

The number of confirmed cases reported in the Scarborough borough as of yesterday afternoon was 605 - up seven from the day before.

A string of Whitby businesses closed their doors over the weekend, citing a rise in cases in the area.

This morning, tea room The Willow Branch at Golden Lion Bank has said it is not opening today after a staff member started showing coronavirus symptoms.

It has posted on social media: "We are gutted to tell you that one of our staff members has got some symptoms of Covid-19 so obviously we are not willing to risk opening and put anybody in danger.

"This precautionary measure, we hope, will aid us in opening back up quicker.

"The member of staff and others will be tested ASAP.

"As you know we have followed guidance to the nth degree so this has really upset us. We will keep you all updated as we know any progress."

Also this morning, Hetty and Betty Cafe and Bistro has said it is shutting today while all staff undergo testing and a deep clean takes place as a precautionary measure.

It has posted on Facebook: "This morning one of our staff has been contacted by Test and Trace to advise that he has been in contact with someone that has now tested positive for Covid-19.

"The person that has tested positive is a friend of our staff member and not one of our staff.

"At this point NONE of our staff are displaying symptoms and we are currently still Covid-19 secure, however in order to be proactive to contain the situation we are closing whilst all of our staff undergo testing and we undertake a full deep clean of the premises.

"This is precautionary only at this point."
