There has been speculation that the store was going to open on Fairfield Way, next to Aldi, but Iceland have confirmed today that this is not the case, despite a store manager's post being advertised on their website.

A spokesman said: "We have no current plans to open a The Food Warehouse store in Whitby.

"I believe that some discussions did take place about the store built for M&S in Fairfield Way, which they decided not to open, but no agreement has been reached for us to take this over."

The job advert for a manager's post is being removed from the website.

The unit has remained empty since being built, with M&S Food previously opting against opening up there.
