Free cod and scampi given to key workers
Whitby Seafoods and two other businesses in the town have joined forces to give free seafood products to key workers in the area.
To say thank you to those working tirelessly during the coronavirus pandemic, Whitby Seafoods donated 100 bags of its Jumbo Scampi to the local giveaway.
The manufacturer partnered up with Dennis Crooks Fish Merchants and skipper Dave Price and his crew of the fishing vessel Wakeful to give local key workers freshly caught cod and free scampi.
The event, coordinated by Will Crooks of Dennis Crooks Fish Merchants, was held at Fairfield Way Business Park.
The giveaway was announced on social media and people were asked to bring along appropriate ID and remain in their vehicles.
Laura Whittle, sales and marketing director at Whitby Seafoods, said: “After seeing the impact of the pandemic, we wanted to give back to our local community.
“The tireless efforts of key workers should be rewarded, which is why we got involved in this initiative. It’s the very least we could do.”
Mr Crooks said: “When I was contacted by Dave Price about a potential give away, I was eager to get involved.
“As well as packaging the fish, I also made an announcement on our Facebook page to attract key workers in the local area.”
